Hi everyone~, I hope you all are doing ok…

Welcome to my self-complacency music time~

Today, I would like to introduce you a beautiful song written by a legendary Brazilian singer/guitarist/composer “Edu Lobo” and a journalist/poet/songwriter “Torquato Neto”. English lyrics were written by a Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’66 singer/lyricist/author “Lani Hall”…

Original song title is “Pra Dizer Adeus” and English version is titled “To say Goodbye”.

I wanted sing in Portuguese but gave up and end up singing in English…

First time I encountered this song was by Sergio Mendes & Brazil ’77 “Live in Japan” Cassette Tape that my Dad had.

Starting with Elis Regina in 1966, this song has been also recorded by many greats such as Maria Bethania, Tom Jobim, Luiz Eca, Baden Powell and Sarah Vaughn… but personally I favor the ones sang by the original writer “Edu Lobo”.

Edu Lobo wrote this amazingly slow beautiful song but he can also come up with amazingly complex uptempo tunes like “Zanzibar”…please check this song out as well! also note that Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’77 version of this tune is super funky!

Let me explain some of technical side of my performance on this song as well…

I have been avoiding multi-track recording for about 10 years now. I totally do it for other people’s project but I prefer row, no overdubs and non-fixed performance for my own stuff. At the same time I always like to try out my new gear so I used a few cool effects with modularsynths system to process the sound. I used Make Noise Morphagene for subtle “turntable noise” loop in the background. Make Noise Echophon for pitch shifted Delay/Stereo for electric guitar. My vocal is going thru Rossum Panharmonium to get subtle ghost atmosphere like sound & Make Noise Mimeophon for deep echo and random hold… And few other modules to shape the sound.

In any case, I only used modularsynths system for all the sound, and recorded straight into my iPhone 6… No extra outboard gear is used, except for the mixer and speakers to monitor the sound when I performed.

I am not that good of a singer/guitar player but I love this song so much and just couldn’t help not doing it…

again,

thank you very much to Edu for writing such a beautiful music…
